Week in Review 22/2017

What did I see?
As everyone and their mom do love kitty pictures on the internet, I have some that I found on the internet. Elda Zakirov made classical potraits of cats resembling higher ups in military and general public for his series "The Hermitage's Court Cats". I love the cool portraits, I wish my cats would dress up like that! Unfortuntely, they'd never do that. Not even for tuna, I think!

What did I listen to?
Aurelio Voltaire - God thinks I saw him yesterday in Frankfurt and he was such a nice and funny person. Would love to see him on WGT next year as he promised!

What did I ask myself?
So how can I make that leather jacket? I have a pattern but sewing pleather is no fun!

What did I read?
All of the Parasol Protectorate is read.Lovely and with a great ending! Now I'm up to the Misfortunes of the Baudelaires in "A Series of unfortunate Events" by Lemony Snicket. I wanted to read the books before watching the Netflix series!

What did I work on?
Today I have a day off and started making a mockup for the jacket.

I was happy about...
Seeing Aurelio Voltaire live yesterday on a whim. Although I had to go alone I had a blast!

I was annoyed about...
What's up with the weather? Sunshine and heat, now cold and rainy. Please decide what you want!

I bought...
More fabric (for my boyfriend and a colleague) and sewing notions. Today on the Dutch fabric market in Mannheim!

Fabric diet - No so good news

I mentioned it before: Last week during my trip to Amsterdam I shopped fabrics. I planned to buy a single fabric from the Lapjesmarket there as a souvenir and just went full bonkers with the choice. The good thing is I spent less than 50 Euros including poffertjes for two (my awesome colleague accompanied me and never once complanied). And I bought a lot of stuff - 17m, as you can see below:

What can I say? There is no apology. Although I have to admit that sewing from stash for such a long time made me dread sewing. I was uninspired by my fabrics and yearning for new ones. I was determined to not buy new. But my sewing was dwindling. I had to force myself to the sewing machine. The new fabrics inspired me a lot. I have plans for all of my new aqcuisitions, as you can see below:

Was soll ich sagen?

  1. jogging pants (the skinny variant that one can wear outside the house)
  2. a cardigan and a scarf from the wrinkly jersey
  3. either a bomber jacket or a plain jacket from the fabric I have troubles discribing - it is not stretchy and has fake leather pieces in colours between silver and black
  4. a silver fake leather moto jacket
  5. a pair of skinny jeans and a pencil skirt with silver pleather accents
  6. a plissee shirt (which seem to be right on trend)

Week in Review - 21/2017

What did I see?
Now to something completely different: Pictures of real women covered with gold and silver. My first association was of the James Bond movie Goldfinger, but the pictures are esthetically pleasing and I can't imagine that the models died from their metall paints! ^^ Silvana Denker really enhanced their beauty!

What did I listen to?
Missfits - Rumbar (because of the rum I drank at Op t' Spuit)

What did I ask myself?
Why do the weeks fly by so fast?

What did I read?
Even more of the parasol protectorate. I'm currently in the last novel. And I will be sad once it's gone!

What did I work on?
Since I was away from home, nothing much

I was happy about...
Having some days besides my work conference in Amsterdam. Meeting nice people there. And learning lots of new stuff!

I was annoyed about...
Me sabotaging my fabric diet. D*mn.

I bought...
Fabrics. And clothes. I really crashed my plans there *sigh*

Fashion Style knotted dress

As I mentioned last week, the jersey I used was split between another Selja and a dress. This was not the first time that I sewed the dress; a while ago my mum was visiting me and we sewed the very same patter (Fashion Style 11/2016) from a very different fabric. While her's was thick and polkadotted, mine was thin and slinky. This made for some challenges.

The knot is formed by very strange looking pattern pieces, twisted around one another. The changes I made was that I used false Bias tape around the neck instead of a facing. I also shortened the sleeves to 3/4 because it is getting warmer already.

As you can see, the seamline twists. Just in front, so it is very obvious. This is seam incarnation number 4 and I have the slight feeling that number 2 was the best. But the fabric won't be seam ripped once more. My mum with her thicker fabric had other problems. Her dress twists around the neck a bit due to the  position on the fabric. Maybe this only works well in a very specific weight and stretchyness?

Sewing pattern review
The pattern itself is true to size and if you just sew along with the instructions, the sewing is not hard to do. It might be worth trying different fabrics or ordering the original fabric though, which could eliminate the twisting issues.

Week in Review - 19/2017

What did I see?
After last weeks real creatures from gears and watch parts, this week Forgotten Boneyard shows fantastic creatures made from real and fake bones. In many cases I find myself wondering if this is a real skeletton or made up!

What did I listen to?
Noisuf-X Voodoo ritual

What did I ask myself?
How comes that time passes so quickly?

What did I read?
The next incarnation of the parasol protectorate, Blameless by Gail Carriger. Even better than the first, I think! Alexia Tarabotti now travels to Scotland into mysterious castles, strange family ties and ghosts!

What did I work on?
Nothing. Woe is me!

I was happy about...
Having a long weekend in front of me with family and my boyfriend

I was annoyed about...
Nothing much

I bought...
Only foods

Week in Review 20/2017

What did I see?
This week, I won't show you fantastic sculptures but rather paintings. Daniel Karamudin (theDURRRRIAN) ist a magician when it comes to inspiring pictures which really wake emotions in me! I stumbled upon his "4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse" series and it blew me away!

What did I listen to?
In Extremo - Liam

What did I ask myself?
How can these little beasties be so cute and so mean?

What did I read?
Yet another Alexia Tarabotti novel, Heartless by Gail Carriger. This time the Queen is in real danger and werewolfes and vampires work side by side with the praeternatural to find the culprit. Exciting times!

What did I work on?
Nothing. No time, my poor little buttercups!

I was happy about...
See above. So fluffy!

I was annoyed about...
Being woken at 4 in the morning, nowhere near feeding time. I think they understood that they better not wake me up so early again!

I bought...
A new cat toy which will arrive shortly. D*mned cute faces and fluffy butts! ;)

Another Selja - serial production

As an easy entry into sewing after a while of low sewing mojo I often go for serial prodction or resew patterns I find tried and true. Somehow it's easier to sew once you got your butt to the sewing machin, am I right?

 photo IMG_0994_zpszw41q8ab.jpg

This time I went for another Selja top made from the Named patterns pattern (that sounds strange but seems to be gramatically correct. Booyah!). I had some navy jersey in my stash and with this shirt and another dress I made, the fabric is all but gone. Unfrtunately, the dress was not as successfull as this shirt...

 photo IMG_0993_zpsyfwnxwyg.jpg

By the way, it takes some time to adjust constant cat hair everywhere on my clothes. And the shirt is freshly washed but ironing is not my forte. While wearing the cotton jersey quickly looses it's wrinkles to the body heat! ^^
